The college was founded with the noble idea of providing quality higher education to all the students of this rural and backward area. It is the second oldest college in Kurnool District. The college, affiliated to Sri Venkateswara University, Tirupati, was inaugurated in a temporary building, by the then Vice Chancellor Sri S. Govindarajulu Naidu on 27th June, 1962. B.Com. and B.Sc. courses were started during the years 1964-65 and 1965-66 respectively. A new and spacious premises for the college was necessitated due to the increase in student strength. The farmers bringing their produce to the market yard came forward to contribute their mite and the commission agents of the market yard also agreed to join them with their contributions. 0.5% of the daily gross revenue of the Market Yard was collected for the building construction fund through a system called “Laaga”. This bears testimony to the extent of involvement of the public, in the noble task of wafting academic fragrance in this region. This amount was augmented by the donations from philanthropic public, and utilized for the construction of the new college buildings. Dr. N. Sanjeeva Reddy, the then Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, laid the foundation stone for the permanent building of the college on a 40 acre site on Adoni-Yemmiganur road, on 6th August 1962. The new building of college was inaugurated by the then Deputy Prime Minister Sri Morarji Desai on 11-12-1967. The College Hostel Complex is located on the same campus. It is named in memory of Sri Alimchand Topandas, the father of the donor Sri Alimchand Hemandas. It was declared open by Sri K. Brahmananda Reddy, the then Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh on 11th December, 1967. The Non Resident student centre, constructed with a grant from the U.G.C., was declared open by the then Minister for Education of Andhra Pradesh Sri M.V. Krishna Rao on 30th August, 1974. The construction of the new Library Block was completed with the Grant of the U.G.C. in 1977. A new class room and Laboratory wing was completed with the Grant of the U.G.C. and was inaugurated on30-7-1986, by Her Excellency Kumudben Joshi, the then Governor of Andhra Pradesh. In the year 1987-88, S.V. University P.G. Centre at Anantapur was upgraded to the status of University. It was named after the illustrious Vijayanagara Emperor Sri Krishnadevaraya. The affiliation of the college has been transferred to Sri Krishnadevaraya University, Anantapur. Self-funding programmes like 1) Mathematics, Physics and Computer Science, 2) Mathematics, Physics and Electronics were started in the U.G. courses during the academic year 1988-89. The Computer Laboratory with 25 Personal Computers was inaugurated by the then M.L.A. Sri. Raichooti Ramaiah on 14th February 1987. The Electronics Laboratory was inaugurated by Sri B. Chandrasekhar Reddy, Ex-MLC on 28th January 1992. At present there are 105 computer systems in the college. B.C.A. course and B.Sc. with Mathematics, Statistics and Computer Science were introduced during the academic year 1998-1999. Besides, our college has a Distance Education Centre of S.K.University, Anantapur. It has been functioning since 2005. A class room Block of 900 Sq.Ft. was constructed with the Janma Bhoomi funds and was inaugurated by Dr.P.V.Arunanchalam, the then officiating Vice-Chancellor of S.K.University, Anantapur on 27th February 1999. The English Language Laboratory has 21 computers (one server and twenty clients). They are housed in an acoustically treated, spacious and well ventilated room. The Language Laboratory is commissioned on 30-10-2006.
